Phuket (Mon) – Bangkok (Tues) – Frankfurt (Wed) – Dublin (Thu)

Here I am cruising past Kiev towards Munich at 903 kms per hour and 12,192 kms above sea level, wishing the last few hours would pass so I could have a cigarette :-P

As far as flights go it’s not too bad, LTU airlines, it departed at a reasonable hour (11 am), arrives at a reasonable hour (8.30 pm) and is only 10 % full, so we all have plenty of space. But I forgot to get euros before I left Bangkok, they don’t take baht on this flight and can’t change a US$50 note, so apart from the pasta we had just after take off and the cold meat and bread served before landing, I can’t get anything else to eat, or buy a beer.

I have a whole day in Frankfurt then a short hop to Ireland on Thursday.

I have been gallivanting around the Andaman coast of Thailand with my dear friend Kim who came all that way to see me. I thought it would feel weird to see her in Thailand after all this time being mostly alone, but it was like we just saw each other yesterday. We carried on the same conversations we have always had and managed to keep off each others nerves most of the time. It was very easy and comforting to see her again. It's a good friend who would bring three bottles of Evans & Tate Classic White all that way. It tasted like honey after all those Singa beers. One morning I even had a small glass for breakfast.

Changing boats mid-sea. These guys though the passengers panic as they threw heavy bags from one boat to another was hilarious.

Island hopping

We took things pretty easy, we stretched it to 12.30 pm on Kim’s birthday, when we went to the Green Man, a traditional English pub (including wine cellar) in the heart of Phuket Island. The food was great (esp. desert), the owners friendly and the music typical middle-of-the-road American rock. If I had a dollar for everytime I’ve heard ‘Hotel California’ in the last 4 months, I’d be in business class now.

Birthday Girl

We stayed a few days in Krabi at Ao Nang, before heading south by ferry to Phuket. I could have soaked up the sun and sea for a few more days but my ticket was booked so now it’s on the tail end of the northern autumn and winter. I hardly have warm thing to wear!

Crusing...

And lastly but not at all in the least I would like to wish a wonderful happy birthday to my dear old Dad for November 15th. Happy birthday to you!
