On the move

I've not had net access. I had prepared two prosaic and witty entries (with pics) that I burned to disk and brought to the net cafe, but this machine won't read them.

So you get this instead.

I finally got the hell out of Chaing Mai. It was a bit of an effort, but in then end it was only a 3 hour bus trip north to Chiang Rai. I took it pretty easy in the old city, read, ate, slept. I went out a couple of times and got chatted up by the lead singer of a band (but apparently he's not as handsome as he used to be). Long hair doesn't really do it for me, so I had to turn him down.

My favourite places were the markets (night bazaar, chinatown, Sunday walking), the Lieberman cafe (for the hugs), the Cupid Bar at the Night Bazaar (for the friendly gay Thai boys who knew my name, and the generous vodka and sodas), and (oh bliss) the blind massage association. One and a half hours of Thai massage, by blind Thais (you know what they say about losing one sense heighting others)for about $7 AU. A massage, then a carrot-orange-beet-ginger juice at juice4U and I was high on life.

Now it's off to Laos (crossing the Mekong Friday hopefully) and after that back to Thailand for the Elephant Sanctuary.

A big congratulations to Jo and Simon on little baby Eddie, and thanks for all your emails keeping me company when I was in my 'adjustment' phase. I think I am now having the time of my life.
