Venice
Gorgeous!
Gondaliers on the Grand Canal

At 80 euros for 40mis, no photos of me in a gondola.

The weather is fantastic.

Friendly piegeons & stylish Italians, San Marco Square

The Rialto bridge, most famous in Venice, lined with tourists at sunset.

Dinner?

Fish markets (after closing), still smelly!

Little canal, no cars anywhere. A wonderful break from Italian drivers! Everything they say about them is true.

Venice is absolutely gorgeous, and romantic. It is like a different world, with no cars or bikes, just people walking everywhere. It is not as touristy as I thought it would be, there are so many lovely things to see, and walking along the canals is an easy, pleasurable thing to do. I was lucky to have some romantic company with Sean, he caught red-eye bus and plane to meet me here for 3 days. We wandered canals, cracked a bottle of champagne in the park for lunch, kissed on every bridge.
I'm staying longer to see the Art Biennale which started yesterday. I've already caught up with an artist from Manigrida, at the Cornice Art Fair which started before the Biennale.
Before I was in San Sebastian for a week, on the Verde Costa in the Basque country of Spain, just below France. A bit of a surfing town (haven't seen so many Australians since Edinburgh!) the weather was pretty bad for most of the week, but it was a very laid back and relaxed place to hang out. The people are lovely. I lost my purse and got it back the next day with everything in it. Went to a cider house, where you eat rare 2 inch thick steaks and pour cider straight out of the barrel, ate fantastic tapas and stayed at a great hostel.

These girls had water ballons hidden behind their back.

Puppy, Jeff Koons (for Fraser) at the Bilbao Guggenheim. Steel frame covered with life, blooming flowers.

Spider, Louise Bourgeois, Bilbao Gugg. Inside was a dizzying walk through exhibition by Richard Serra called A Matter of Time. Towering steel elispses and spirals that move away and toward you as you walk though them. There was also a large exhibition of Anselm Keifer, mud, flowers, lead, stars. No photos allowed inside!

San Sebastian
A very relaxed and enjoyable couple of weeks, next stop, deep breath, Roma!

I am super jealous. Am reading an Italian regional cookbook at the mo' and am currently in the Venito section (apparently there's plentiful radicchio, risotto, offal, salami, polenta, smoked ricotta, wines and other cheeses?). YUM (although not the meaty stuff) and such unbelievably beautiful surroundings in which to eat them!
Eddie is better but gets so cross with me when I attempt to wipe his snotty nose- so revolting that babies can't blow their noses. He blows lots of boogie-bubbles when simply trying to breathe.
I very much enjoying reading your writing. May the good times continue.
Love jo xxx

Hi Kel,
You really are getting around!
Travels sound great, Venice looks amazing. Even weather in England has been OK. We are going home next week! 3 days in Dubai, 3 days in Singapore on the way back.
I'm sorry to say, you should be jealous, Venice is pure magic, I loved it enough for all of you.
