Granada

Hi Mum & Dad, I went to the Alhambra too. You were right, it is amazing.

Granada is a charming town too. I met a lovely Australian chica called Maree who has been there for 7 months ‘doing sheets’ at the hostel for bed and food. A university town with students from all over Europe, I think the great, free, tapas with every drink is a one incentive for people to stay.
Above the town was the fascinating Moorish quarter. Narrow, cobbled, winding streets, echo spookily in the middle hours of the afternoon when the wine-soaked locals are taking a siesta and only tourists can be seen about.

View of old Granada from the Alhambra

The snow capped Sierra Nevadas in the distance made my 8 am visit to Alhambra chilly. It was about 2 degrees C and I didn’t really appreciate the palace much because I couldn’t feel my fingers and toes. But after 10am and two short blacks I warmed up enough to fully appreciate this amazing Moorish palace. The beautiful ceramic tiling, the highly decorated ceilings, the gardens and the views from high on the hill were amazing. As I walked through it was so easy to imagine the Arabian royalty living the luxurious life here hundreds of years ago.

Pussycat in residence, Alhambra

Late in the afternoon Maree took me up to a Plaza Mirador where we hung our legs over the wall with the locals and the tourists, drank red wine and watched the sunset.

Sunset at Mirador

Two days only in Malaga, the next day I had a sore head and a 5 hour bus trip to Gibraltar.

Great sign
